Previous studies have indicated that a clean desk leads to healthy eating, generosity and conventionality. They have also indicated a correlation between persons having clean, tidy desks and not committing crimes and not littering. New evidence may weigh in the favor of those “creative chaos” desks though.
A new study published in September 2013 from the University of Minnesota suggests that a messy desk helps creativity to flourish and can lead to the creation of new and bold ideas. The lead author of the study concluded, “orderly environments would encourage adherence to social convention and overall conservatism, whereas disorderly environments would encourage people to seek novelty and unconventional routes.” Which desk do you have?
